    Gov. Sandoval of Nevada signs bill banning sexual abuse of animals

    Gov. Brian Sandoval, R-Nev., signed a measure into law that explicitly bans human sexual activity with animals, which isn’t covered under existing law.

    Senate committee approves ban on shark fins

    The Humane Society Legislative Fund and The Humane Society of the United States applaud the passage of S.793, the Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act of 2017, by the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee this morning. S.793 would prohibit the import, export, sale and trade of shark fins. The HSUS and HSLF urge the Majority Leader to schedule the measure for Senate floor action soon.

    West Virginia man faces felony charges for animal sexual abuse

    The Humane Society of the United States is congratulating the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia for filing felony animal cruelty charges against Victor Zandlo of Brenton for suspected animal sexual abuse, as well as for removing Zandlo’s remaining animals.

    U.S. House leaders introduce legislation to prohibit slaughter of American horses

    Federal lawmakers have introduced legislation to prevent the establishment of horse slaughter operations within the U.S., end the current export of American horses for slaughter abroad, and protect the public from consuming toxic horse meat. The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act, H.R. 113, was introduced by Reps. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), Ed Royce (R-Calif.), and Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.). The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), The Humane Society of the United States and The Humane Society Legislative Fund announced their enthusiastic support for the legislation.
