The Humane Society of the United States is working with farmers and ranchers who embrace strong standards of animal welfare to improve conditions for animals on the farm. We also provide family farmers with an amplified voice to resist policies and programs that promote the industrial animal agriculture model, such as the federal checkoff programs and state laws to shield factory farms from reasonable regulations and oversight. Under the guidance of Rural Affairs Director Scott Beckstead, The HSUS’s Rural Affairs team partners with farmers who share our passion for high standards of animal welfare—for the sake of animals, family farmers, the land, and local communities.

Agriculture Advisory Councils

Our State Agriculture Advisory Councils and our National Agriculture Advisory Council spotlight farms using best practices and give them a platform to voice their concerns about the factory farms that are devastating rural communities. They also help family farmers switch to higher welfare practices. Learn More »
