Outreach Coordinator, Food and Nutrition (Northeast US Region)

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking an Outreach Coordinator, Food and Nutrition (Northeast Region) for its Campaigns department. This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Senior Manager of Food and Nutrition in persuading institutional food service providers and corporations to add more plant-based menu options to their menus.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Conducting outreach, establishing relationships with, and conducting live presentations to institutions and companies in the food industry towards the goal of persuading them to increase plant-based options to their menus;
  • Soliciting media opportunities such as cooking demos for TV, radio interviews, podcasts and/or other media opportunities;
  • Working with HSUS state council volunteers and other non-government organizations to establish a network of support and collaboration to assist with institutional outreach that promotes meat reduction consumption and use;
  • Helping to pass local resolutions, proclamations, and other ceremonial items to support the organization’s meat consumption reduction efforts;
  • Drafting blogs, op-eds, press releases and other marketing pieces to keep the meat reduction campaign front and center within the food industry;
  • Drafting and coordinating support materials related to the meat reduction campaigns, including developing toolkits, promotional materials, and website content development;
  • Helping to pass local resolutions, proclamations, and other ceremonial items to support the organization’s meat consumption reduction efforts;
  • Assisting with other campaign work within the farm animal protection areas including representing the HSUS at food industry conferences and events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience;
  • Minimum year campaigning experience required, preferably on farm animal advocacy issues;
  • Institutional food service experience within a university, school, or business, a strong plus;
  • Prior knowledge of factory farming issues and/or nutrition/health/environmental issues strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of plant-based cuisine a plus;
  • Strong writing, verbal, interpersonal, and persuasive skills;
  • Knowledge of food industry procurement a strong plus;
  • Must be able and willing to travel locally and to other states as needed.
