Program Assistant

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Program Assistant for the Animal Research department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and act as a key resource for the planning, execution, and tracking of activities for the Animal Research team. 

This position will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the execution of program plans within the established timelines;
  • Conducting research and gathering information within animal research issues as required;
  • Supporting the development of material and communications such as press releases, letters, tables, figures and slides for manuscripts, reports and public education materials, and assist with the coordination and production of other related tools such as action alerts, social media posts, web content and with exhibit booths;
  • Coordinating and participating in internal program meetings to support the development of plans and strategies;
  • Developing and implementing processes to assist in the tracking and monitoring of program efforts;
  • Preparing and distributing progress reports/updates and assisting with the preparation of presentations and briefings;
  • Assisting with the required record-keeping and documentation of the program;
  • Performing administrative duties related to conference and meeting planning, travel coordination, and accounting tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy life sciences or related field or equivalent experience required;
  • Must have general familiarity with the use of animals in biomedical research and testing as well as non- animal alternatives;
  • Must be able to conduct thorough and extensive research within scientific publications and within databases and understand general ideas and terminology associated with animal research issues;
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office knowledge required;
  • Strong communication skills required, both orally and in writing and strong organizational and attention to detail skills are needed;
  • Must have a strong commitment to animal protection and basic knowledge of current animal welfare issues.
