City Manager, Philadelphia

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a City Manager, Philadelphia for its Pet for Life (PFL) department. The main responsibility of this position is to oversee staff and partnerships to implement the program through the PFL approach and philosophy and work with other PFL cities and the department to further the program.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all aspects of PFL city program, including community outreach, spay/neuter services and transport, pet wellness care, community outreach events, data collection, program communication, relationships with partners and ensuring the program operates according to the PFL model, approach and philosophy;
  • Supervising, leading and coordinating with other PFL staff on program activities, such as spay/neuter, medical care, how to conduct strategic community outreach, and how to engage the community for long term, sustainable impact;
  • Managing data collection, tracking and reporting of PFL work, outcomes and goals;
  • Managing relationships with local donors and partners;
  • Managing program budget, equipment and supply inventory;
  • Ensuring that HSUS remains in compliance with facility contractual agreements;
  • In coordination with Volunteer Engagement, overseeing the volunteer program for the PFL city program;
  • Continuing to develop contacts and relationships to further PFL by building partnerships with local groups;
  • Assisting in training of mentorship groups by hosting mentorship organizations and planning trainings;
  • Working with other PFL cities and team to further PFL across the country;
  • Assisting with fundraising, community presentations and other educational opportunities;
  • Serving as a spokesperson for PFL as well as managing and coordinating media appearances for PFL public relations staff;
  • Ensuring that PFL location remains in compliance with local and state law, and HSUS policy;
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the animal welfare or other advocacy field;
  • Supervisory experience required;
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with demonstrated flexibility and the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity while meeting time sensitive deadlines and deliverables;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
  • The ability to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust and respect, and demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy and discretion;
  • Willingness to travel;
  • Must be able to move/lift 50 lbs, bend frequently, and stand throughout the workday.
