Maintenance Technician

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch (CABBR) in Murchison, TX. The main responsibilities of this position is to provide overall proper maintenance to vehicles, tractors, heavy equipment and all internal roads, as well as completing repairs and upgrades to equipment, buildings and site infrastructure. Provide support and service of all electrical services and troubleshoot information technology equipment.

This position will be responsible for

  • Assisting with the construction, upkeep and repairs of all enclosures, habitats, and buildings;
  • Performing maintenance and repair of equipment (to include but not limited to security systems, electrical, wiring, fencing, vehicles, small & heavy equipment, and enclosures);
  • Updating and maintaining logs to document all completed repairs and maintenance items;
  • Maintaining records of all inspections and registrations of vehicles;
  • Implementing proper maintenance and repairs of internal and perimeter fencing and gates;
  • Updating and maintaining inventory of all plumbing, electrical, vehicle maintenance and other supplies and equipment;
  • Assisting in intermittent husbandry activities such as moving animals, de-worming, hoof stock and capture of animals as needed;
  • Assisting in safe/humane handling of animals during treatments and other handling routines and maintain procedures to minimize stress on animals as needed;
  • Performing burial of animals as requested.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience required;
  • Minimum two years of contracting, welding, and construction experience;
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record;
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Commitment to the goals and programs of the HSUS, and to the highest-quality animal care;
  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment and be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds;
  • Must be able to work outdoors in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions and work occasional long workdays;
  • Must be able to work with/around a variety of animals;
  • Must be able to negotiate trails and moderately dense undergrowth during rescue operations;
  • Must be able to adhere to all policies and procedures that enforce a safe work environment.
