Web Specialist (entry level)

The Humane Society of The United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization is seeking a Web Specialist for our Companion Animals department. The main responsibility of this position is to provide complete technical support for the animalsheltering.org and related websites including the Expo registration site and e-newsletters.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Managing banner ad creation, workflow management, component enhancements, Animal Sheltering magazine content, social media platforms, and other services;
  • Testing, implementing, and tracking new Drupal tools and working with staff to develop more interactive options to engage visitors in our content, keep them on our site and get them to take action for companion animals;
  • Editing photographs and working with web designer to create special graphics for web as well as managing purchasing of stock photography;
  • Maintaining animalsheltering.org and other Google Analytics accounts and performing testing using Google Experiments. Maintain Google Webmaster tools;
  • Creating regular reporting based on requests from staff and performing or managing other testing;
  • Overseeing technical and editorial aspects of the animalsheltering.org center and managing the successful day-to-day operations of the www.animalsheltering.org website;
  • Providing first level support for all technical problems relating to web properties;
  • Managing daily web updates, homepage, magazine content, ads and news as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the social sciences, computer science, journalism, or other related fields preferred;
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a web, publications, or other creative environment required;
  • Experience required in using a web design program such as Dreamweaver and/or knowledge of HTML and a website content management system;
  • Prefer candidates with experience using PhotoShop, and other desktop publishing software;
  • Top-notch writing, editing, research, and web-development skills;
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and able to multi-task;
  • A strong desire to work on behalf of companion animals.
