Workplace Giving Specialist

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Workplace Giving Specialist for our Business Development and Corporate Relations (BDCR) team in Gaithersburg, MD. The main responsibility of this position is to direct and manage all aspects of the workplace giving program. This position is accountable for generating and growing a significant stream of annual revenue from employee payroll-deduction donations and the corresponding automatic corporate matching donations.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and directing all relationships to tailor giving plans appropriate for each entity;
  • Timely preparation of annual applications by gathering and vetting the necessary information from various programs and departments, assembling the annual description of services reports, collecting all supporting documents and submitting to VP for final approval;
  • Preparing annual state applications which would include gathering and reporting activities performed in a particular state, gathering of documents of certification for state solicitation, and tax-exempt status, Form 990’s and audit reports;
  • Administering and keeping current all charity profiles on third-party workplace giving campaign administrator/vendor platforms
  • Coordinating donor correspondence type and schedule. Submitting project requests for each type of correspondence, for each charity’s donors (HSUS, HSI, and FFA).
  • Coordinating with Donor Care or an outside provider for large mailings or IS for large email files;
  • Tracking and analyzing financial data and recording donations received, coordinating and tracking all payment of service fees to workplace giving operators;
  • Working with VP to institute systems to track and retain donor/pledger information in the database and funnel donors into appropriate cultivation tracks;
  • Collaborating daily with multiple departments across all affiliates to gather critical information;
  • Maintaining regular interaction with Donor Care, campaign staff, accounting staff, communications and content staff, executive assistants for application review and signatures;
  • Keeping contact with Federation staff, corporations, third party administrators and Federal Employees;
  • Attending workplace giving fairs to represent HSUS and affiliates, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related equivalent work experience in business administration and/or marketing, and/or fundraising required;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience administering a multi-faceted marketing, communications or fundraising program with workplace giving experience and CFC experience preferred;
  • Attention to detail, well organized and able to manage multiple demands under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
  • The ability to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust and respect, and demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy and discretion;
  • Organizational, project, and priority management skills for planning, able to meet established deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Strong working functionality with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Must be able to travel locally when necessary.
