The Humane Society of the United States’ Law Enforcement Training Center provides training to thousands of law enforcement officers each year on investigating and prosecuting illegal animal cruelty and fighting. Trainers are former and current law enforcement with expertise in animal abuse crimes.
The LETC offers a variety of courses on different topics, and work with agencies to provide relevant, customized courses.
Trainings address illegal cruelty and fighting crimes, investigatory techniques, applicable state and federal laws and tips for successful prosecutions. The courses also review the link between animal abuse and other criminal activity (namely, drugs, guns, domestic violence, elder/child abuse).
Because of the sensitive nature of the material presented in this class, participation is restricted to law enforcement personnel.

Animal Cruelty and Fighting Investigations
Addresses illegal cruelty and fighting crimes, investigatory techniques, applicable state and federal laws and tips for successful prosecutions.
Police/Dog Encounters
Addresses officer/animal encounters and how agencies can be prepared to avoid unnecessarily shooting a family pet.
Equine Cruelty Investigations
Covers illegal equine abuse and neglect, applicable state and federal laws, investigative techniques and prosecutions.
Animal Abuse and Violent Crime
Hosts an in-depth discussion of the relationship between animal abuse and other violent crime, including gangs, drugs, and domestic violence/child abuse. Addresses investigatory techniques and tips to be prepared for other criminal activity likely to be present.
